Fees and Payments

Standard PRIVATE therapy session FEES

The fee for a standard private therapy session (50-60 minutes) is:

  • Clinical Psychologist: $250
  • Psychologist $220

In some situations, a temporarily reduced fee may be offered. We also accept payment from several third parties who may offer partial or full funding for psychology sessions (see the private health and third-party funding section below).

Medicare Rebates

Most clients are eligible for a Medicare rebate that can substantially reduce their out-of-pocket costs for up to 10 therapy sessions per calendar year. To obtain the rebate, you will need to visit your medical provider and ask for a referral under a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

As of 1st July 2025 the Medicare rebate is:

  • $145.25 for a Clinical Psychologist per session (out of pocket $104.75)
  • $98.97 for a Psychologist per session (out of pocket $121.03)

Assessment FEES

Our fees vary depending on the type of assessment that is required.  Formal diagnostic assessments are time consuming and can involve many hours of work for your psychologist in addition to the time that they spend with you. This is necessary to provide an accurate and informed clinical opinion and/or diagnosis.

As a guide, a standard (non-complex) formal assessment (for ADHD, for example) can often involve:

  • 3 hours of interview/observation/document review
  • 3 hours of formal assessment and scoring (in-person and/or via online questionnaires)
  • 4 hours of report writing
  • 1 hour of feedback

We do offer a discount if you are requiring a combined assessment (e.g. ASD and ADHD) and these are undertaken at the same time.

If you are unsure which assessment you require, we offer a standalone one-hour initial consultation to explore your assessment needs and, as applicable, provide you with a quote for further assessment.

Please note:

  • In general, Medicare does not provide rebates for assessment.
  • In some cases, third party funder (such as NDIS) may fully or partially fund assessment.
  • In some cases, assessment services may be subject to GST.
  • We do not offer medico-legal assessments or reports

Late cancellation fees

  • Wayfinder Psychology charges a fee for non-attendance of appointments without adequate notice.
  • We require two full business days' notice in order to cancel or reschedule a session. This time allows us to fill the spot and provides those clients on our waiting list the opportunity to receive a service. It also avoids cost to the practice.
  • Our late cancellation fee for non-attendance is the equivalent to the full cost of the session.
  • No Medicare rebates are available for sessions that were not attended; however, some funding bodies will cover non-attendance costs.
  • If you do need to cancel your appointment late, we will do our best to fill the slot with another client from our waitlist. If we are able to do this, then you will not be charged the cancellation fee.
  • Unfortunately, this cancellation fee is required to be applied in all situations (e.g. including sickness).
  •  If your therapist needs to cancel or reschedule the appointment, you will not be charged a late cancellation fee.
